Key Project Components
The Advancing Sustainable Animal Production and Biodiversity (ASAP-Bio) partnership unites Muni University with Aarhus University (Denmark), DebreBerhan University (Ethiopia), University of Nairobi, and Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology (Kenya).
Key highlights include:
- 28 fully funded MSc scholarships at Aarhus University for East African students.
- 10 medium-term and 15 short-term research visits.
- 171 participants in summer schools (2027–2032) with 50% female participation.
- Joint development of 5–8 MSc modules in Integrated Sustainable Animal Production Systems (ISAPS).
- Faculty exchange, administrative training, and a shared knowledge platform.
This initiative, funded under Denmark’s Knowledge and Innovation Programme (KIP), strengthens equitable collaboration between African and Danish universities.
Institutional Commitment to Agricultural Transformation
Vice-Chancellor Assoc. Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini emphasized agriculture as the cornerstone of economic transformation, urging a shift from subsistence to commercial farming. He highlighted youth engagement through modern approaches like aquaculture and technology-driven agriculture.
Prof. Jacob Godfrey Agea advocated for flexible academic programming, integrating short courses to enhance skills and adaptability.
Dr. Robert Onzima and Prof. Okia underscored the partnership’s potential to boost staff capacity, research, and innovation, particularly in genetic improvement and commercial farming systems.
Focus on Regional Development
The collaboration promises significant benefits for the West Nile region, fostering innovation in animal breeding and sustainable livestock practices.
Sandra Langi stressed community engagement, encouraging local farmers and stakeholders to participate in knowledge exchange and sustainable agricultural initiatives.
