Muni University Inaugurates 4th Council
Muni University officially inaugurated its 4th University Council on 29th June 2026, marking a renewed phase of reform-driven governance aimed at strengthening academic excellence, innovation, and sustainable institutional transformation.
During the inaugural meeting, Eng. Joel Aita was unanimously re-elected as Chairperson, while Mr. Moses Kibrai was elected Deputy Chairperson. The duo will serve a four-year term, providing strategic leadership to consolidate the University’s steady growth and longterm development agenda. Eng. Aita returns after a highly transformative tenure during the 3rd Council, in which the University recorded remarkable institutional growth.
Student enrolment increased from about 600 to over 3,100, academic programmes expanded from 13 to 34, PhD-qualified staff rose from 27 to 50, and professorships grew from 6 to 13, significantly strengthening teaching capacity, research output, and postgraduate supervision. The swearing-in ceremony was presided over by Counsel Samuel Ondoma, who guided Council members and senior leadership through the Oath of Office and Oath of Secrecy, reaffirming their commitment to integrity, accountability, and confidentiality in the discharge of their duties.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Simon Anguma Katrini, together with the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic Affairs), Prof. Jacob Agea, and the Deputy Vice Chancellor (Finance and Administration), Rev. Fr. Prof. Odubuker Picho Epiphany, also took their Oaths of Office and Secrecy. In a move to strengthen inclusive governance, the Council unanimously elected Mr. Aliga Yunus to represent Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), while Arua City Council retained full representation on the governing body.
Student leadership representation was reaffirmed through the 11th Guild President, Hon. Terrace Atema, ensuring continued
inclusion of student voices in institutional decision-making. The newly constituted Council is expected to build on Muni University’s strong growth trajectory by accelerating innovation, deepening research impact, strengthening academic excellence, and expanding community engagement across Uganda and beyond. With this renewed leadership, the
University signals a firm commitment to transformative governance, inclusive participation, and sustained institutional excellence
